FAMILY TO FAMILY

Family to Family (F2F)
The United States child welfare system faces serious challenges that have been growing for more than a decade. In response, the Annie E. Casey Foundation, in consultation with community leaders and child welfare practitioners nationwide, has developed a reform initiative called Family to Family.

Family to Family includes principles, strategies, and tools to confront the real problems faced by child welfare systems. These include:

  • strengthening the network of families available to care for abused and neglected children in their own communities;
  • building partnerships with at-risk neighborhoods toward that end; and
  • tracking outcomes for children and families, so that child welfare systems can better learn from their experiences.

The Annie E. Casey Foundation recently chose Macomb County as one of its anchor sites for the Family to Family Initiative.

As the Macomb County Family to Family program initiated, CARE was contracted through the Macomb County Department of Human Services to provide specific support services to the South Warren Community.

The South Warren Family Resource Network (SWFRN) was then developed and is a community collaborative of supportive social services agencies and community representatives who assist families from the South Warren community. The mission of SWFRN is to strengthen and empower South Warren Families through prevention and intervention.

SWFRN is lead by the South Warren Community Specialist who is responsible for coordinating Family to Family & SWFRN activity.

The South Warren Community Specialist has a satellite office based in Mt. Calvary Family Community Center in South Warren and can be reached at 586.758.1253.

SWFRN coordinates several events and activities for foster parents throughout the year including the Foster Parent Club which meets monthly for educational trainings at Mt. Calvary.
